In July 2018, I embarked on an unforgettable journey as I participated in the PADI Course Director Training Course (CDTC) in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. This experience marked my second Instructor Trainer course, following the SSI Instructor Trainer Seminar in 2011. The CDTC in Punta Cana was not just another professional milestone; it was a transformative experience that solidified my role in the global diving community.

A Global Gathering of Diving Professionals

The CDTC brought together 50 participants from across the globe, including Austria, Curacao, the USA, Canada, the UK, South Africa, Portugal, Maldives, Micronesia, South Korea, Japan, Chile, Mozambique, Saint Lucia, Argentina, and Greece. The diversity of this group created a rich, multicultural environment where ideas, techniques, and experiences were freely shared.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the CDTC was the opportunity to network with the crème de la crème of the scuba diving industry. The shared experiences, discussions, and collaborations with these highly accomplished professionals added immeasurable value to the course.

Leadership and Expertise: The PADI CD Trainers

The course was led by an esteemed group of PADI Course Director Trainers, including Alan Jan, James Morgan, Michael Richardson, and Eric Albinsson, among others. Their guidance and expertise were instrumental in shaping our development as future Course Directors. Each trainer brought their unique perspective and depth of experience, challenging us to think critically, refine our teaching methods, and embrace the leadership roles we were preparing to assume.

An Intense and Rewarding Experience

The PADI CDTC is known for its rigorous standards, designed to test and expand the capabilities of each participant. From advanced teaching techniques to in-depth knowledge of PADI’s educational philosophy, the course covered every aspect necessary to develop world-class dive educators. The program's intensity was matched only by the camaraderie that developed among the participants, creating a supportive environment where everyone was encouraged to excel.

The CDTC Marketing Award: A Team Triumph

One of the most memorable aspects of the CDTC was the group project, where the 50 candidates were divided into teams of 6-7 members each. I was part of the Orange Team, proudly named the Adaro Divers Team. Our task was to create a comprehensive marketing plan and strategy, emphasizing creativity and originality. After intense brainstorming sessions, meticulous planning, and collaborative efforts, our team was thrilled to win the CDTC Marketing Award for the best marketing plan, strategy, and originality. This achievement was a testament to our teamwork, innovation, and understanding of what it takes to succeed in the competitive dive industry.

The Importance of Networking in the Diving Industry

Beyond the formal training, the CDTC provided an unparalleled networking opportunity. Engaging with more than 60 of the industry’s top professionals allowed for the exchange of ideas and the establishment of connections that continue to benefit my career. The relationships formed during this course have led to collaborations and friendships that span continents, further enriching my professional and personal life.

Another Milestone in My Career

Completing the PADI CDTC was more than just another certification; it was a defining moment in my professional journey. It reinforced my commitment to delivering the highest standards of dive education and prepared me to mentor the next generation of dive professionals. This experience has had a profound impact on how I approach teaching, leadership, and the business of diving.

Conclusion

The PADI Course Director Training Course in Punta Cana was an extraordinary experience that pushed me to new heights in my diving career. The combination of rigorous training, expert mentorship, global networking, and the shared success of winning the CDTC Marketing Award has left an indelible mark on my approach to dive education. As I continue to guide and inspire future dive professionals, I carry with me the lessons and connections forged during this pivotal experience.
